The Wronged Princess by Kae Elle @kathylwheeler #CinderellaTale #Fantasy #Suspense

The Plot:

Finding his mysterious princess by trying her glass slipper on every maiden in Chalmers Kingdom sounded like a brilliant scheme until the silly thing slid quite easily on the foot of the wrong girl. Now how is Prince Charming supposed to find his true love? Unbeknownst to either, his mother, the queen, and her feisty twin (Cinderella’s infamous fairy godmother) have a lesson to impart—impulsive decisions do not a future king make!

About the Author:

I love sports—the NFL, the NBA… I hold season tickets to the Oklahoma City Thunder. I love Broadway musicals, too. I have a BA in Management Information Systems and a vocal minor. I love travel, reading, writing, and just to round things out and scratch the singing itch—karaoke.

Review:

I just hate it when I read a book by a friend that’s poorly edited. Ms. Wheeler tells a really good story with a much more complex relationship between Ella and her sisters than the usual version of Cinderella. Her stepmother is still the scheming, social climber of the Grimm version, but she doesn’t have to lop off parts of her daughters’ feet to get the shoe to fit. Esmerelda and Cinderella used to swap shoes all the time before the Count died, when the girls were friends. Imagine both Cinderella and the Prince’s horror when the glass slipper slid right onto the wrong foot! And so, the fun begins.

As I said at the beginning, my problem with the book was the editing, or lack thereof. There were mixed tenses, misused words; in short, the grammar was terrible. It really is a shame, because Ms. Wheeler shows a deep knowledge of history and mythology, and her fractured fairy tale would be a great read with better grammar.

Cinder the Fae: Fairelle Series, Book Four by Rebekah R. Ganiere

Blurb:

Orphaned shop girl Cinder, and Rome, the Prince of the Fae, have been best friends most of their lives. And she’s loved him for just as long. But with the death of her father, she’s now trapped as the sole breadwinner for her stepmother and half-sister—leaving little time for anything more than dreaming of getting away.

Rome loves Cinder as well, but her free spirit and lack of noble blood have stood in the way of him doing something about it. That is until his father, the king, decrees a three-part contest will determine Rome’s new bride.

Even though Cinder possess more magick than has been seen in a hundred years, only those with the highest royal blood are able to enter the contest; leaving Cinder out of the running for good. That is until a Fairy Grandmother steps in with a disguise and a plan.

But a hidden evil has been scheming for centuries and is vying to be more than just Rome’s new bride. It wants all of Ville DeFee.

Cinder’s magick can stop those out to ruin her kingdom. But it may mean giving up her life to do it.

Review:

Cinder the Fae puts a slightly different spin on the Cinderella story. Yes, Cinder is the orphan child of a nobleman, but she was born “on the wrong side of the sheets,” and her father never acknowledged her or told her who her mother was. Therefore, the assumption is that Cinder is descended from a servant, and is only half royal blood, which she can’t even legally claim.

Cinder still has an evil stepmother, but she and her half-sister have a close and loving relationship—when the stepmother isn’t looking. As for the Prince, he and Cinder have been friends all their lives. Her father was the king’s most trusted advisor, and as a child she had free run of the castle. Now all grown up, they’re in love, but neither has had the courage to admit it to themselves, let alone each other. Until the king gets tired of waiting for Prince Rome to choose a wife and declares the young noble ladies of Ville de Fee must compete for his hand. The one with the strongest magick will win. It’s too late for Rome to declare his love for Cinder or propose to her, and she’s not allowed to compete, despite the fact her magick is superior to everyone else’s in the kingdom.

But Rome’s grandmother has a niggling feeling at the back of her mind—a not-quite memory of someone who looked a lot like Cinder. Someone of noble birth with strong magick. But she can’t quite put her finger on it. The harder she tries to remember, the farther it recedes. One thing she does know—Cinder has the strongest magick in the kingdom, and loves Rome as much as he loves her. Cinder must compete and win the competition. So, she uses a bit of her own magick to help Cinder with a disguise.

However, just winning the contest and Rome’s hand isn’t enough. There’s more at stake. Before they can marry and celebrate their wedding, the evil that’s been lurking within the castle kidnaps Cinder. And they don’t want ransom; they want to keep her prisoner and use her magick.

Cinder the Fae was another good read, but it was tarnished by inadequate editing. It’s such a shame when an author suffers from errors that should have been found by her editors. Otherwise, I highly recommend this story about a damsel who is definitely not in distress. Well, not totally.

Cinderella’s Enchanted Night by Amber Daulton

Blurb:

Annalise Gallagher wants Elijah Burleigh. Plain and simple. She’s watched him from afar for months, her friends call her “his own personal stalker,” and then she makes a wish on a magic pendant for a full-body makeover. Transformed into the gorgeous knockout she’s always wanted to be, she asks Elijah out on a date and wears a haute couture gown straight from Paris to his friend’s wedding. With just twenty-four hours on the clock, her enchanted night fades into the morning hours and everything crashes down around her. Annalise harbors a shameful secret and Elijah demands the truth with the veil of magic gone. The truth, however, could destroy her fragile confidence and push him away forever.

About the Author:

Writing is the fruit to happiness.

Amber Daulton lives her life by that one belief even though she normally isn't so Zen.

Author of several novellas, she published her first book in 2012 and hopes to publish countless more in the future. As a fan of contemporary, paranormal and historical romance novels alike, she can't get enough of feisty heroines and alpha heroes. Her mind is a wonderland of adventure, laughter and awesome ways of kicking a guy when he's down. She probably wouldn't be too sane without her computer and notebooks. After all, what's a girl to do when there are people jabbering away in her head and it's hard to shut them up? Write! Nothing else works.

Reviews are available on Amazon, Goodreads, and Shelfari, as well as on numerous blogs. Please check out her blog or FB page to stay connected.

Review by Rochelle:

Cinderella’s Enchanted Night was a cute story. Annalise Gallagher has major body-image issues. She wants Elijah Burleigh, but she doesn’t dare approach him—not with her dumpy, lumpy body and a horrible disfigurement hidden under her clothes. Not until she wishes on an enchanted locket and wakes up the next morning with the perfect body she’s always hoped for. Full of the locket’s magical self-confidence, she finally speaks to Elijah and asks him out. But he’s busy—a friend is getting married. It’s black-tie. Would she like to accompany him? Hopefully the wedding will end and she’ll be home by midnight, so Annalise agrees. At least she’ll have one evening with Elijah.

I so wanted to give Cinderella’s Enchanted Night five roses, but it needed a bit better editing. Still, it’s a sweet story with well-drawn characters that deals with an issue I don’t think any woman ever escapes—body image.

I have photos of my grandkids in my hall. Each of my granddaughters complained about her photo—“my hair’s all wrong;” “I hate my smile.” Don’t we all wish we had a magic locket? What would you do if you had a perfect body for twenty-four hours?
