Back on Track by Donna Cummings

Blurb:

What's a little lie between strangers?

A Strangers on a Train Story

Allie Whittaker is in a dating slump, too busy getting her fledgling marketing company off the ground to have a personal life. All that could change, though, if she can get baseball superstar Matt Kearns on the cover of a charity calendar. Except Matt won't even talk to her.

Matt’s in a slump, worried his career might be over. A Napa Valley wine tour isn't enough to take his mind off his troubles—until sexy, funny Allie plops into the adjacent seat and tells him three things about herself. One of them, she says, is a lie.

Matt can't resist playing along, and soon the afternoon getaway becomes an interlude with lies, truths, and desire flowing as fast as the wine. Then Allie lets slip one truth too many...and they both realize they're playing for keeps.

Warning: A handsome hunk, a determined lady and a few glasses of wine. Throw in a little on-the-run action, and what more do you need to while away an afternoon?

Review:

Back on Track was a funny romp through an excursion train. When Allie first joins Matt at his table, she doesn’t recognize him. As they’re playing the, “I’ll tell you three things about me and one of them is a lie” game, he tells her his name hoping she knows nothing about baseball and will think that’s the lie. Allie recognizes him, but seizes on that, saying, “You’re not Matt Kearns. I dated him, and he was way hotter than you.”

Matt goes along with it and finds himself trying to compete with Allie’s fictitious version of him while they run through the train dodging avid fans with cameras and looking for places to make-out, until she slips about the calendar and reveals herself. When he comes to his senses and realizes he doesn’t want to lose her, will he find Allie again on the crowded train?  I’m not telling.  I recommend you grab this warm, funny, short story with just enough shades of grey to keep you pleasantly toasty.

Length:  55 Pages
Digital Price:  $2.50

You’ll notice we always include the publisher’s buy link. That’s because authors usually receive 40% of the book price from the publisher. Editors and cover artists usually receive about 5%. When you buy a book from Amazon, Barnes & Noble or another third-party vendor, they take a hefty cut and the author, editors and cover artists receive their cuts from what is left. So, if a book costs $5.99 at E-Book Publisher.com and you buy from there, the author will receive about $2.40. If you buy the book at Amazon, the author will receive about $0.83.

Downloading the file from your computer to your Kindle is as easy as transferring any file from your computer to a USB flash drive. Plug the larger USB end of your chord into a USB port on your computer and simply move the file from your “Downloads” box to your Kindle/Documents/Books directory. You can download your books onto your computer using “Save As” to a “Books” file you create and sort them into sub-folders by genre, author, or however you wish before transferring them to your Kindle. That way, if there’s a glitch with your Kindle, the books are on your computer. Your author will be happy you did when he/she sees his/her royalty statement.

Summer Lovin’ by Donna Cummings

Blurb:

Everyone should have at least one wild fling on their resumé.

Mia volunteers to dog-sit for two weeks, giving her a chance to figure out the next step in her life, and career. She discovers it's not easy chasing after a puppy with a shoe fetish, but there's a reward for all her troubles: the hunky guy next door.

Luke is a workaholic forced to take two weeks' vacation, and at first he's sure the downtime might kill him. But then he gets to know his temporary neighbor. She's sexy and fun, and all of a sudden, two weeks isn't nearly enough time.

Review:

Summer Lovin’ is a cute little romp involving two people taking time off who are brought together by an animated dust mop who plays cupid. The puppy’s name is Bootsie, but through most of the book they call him Hellboy, because he’s so good at getting into trouble.  One could wonder how much trouble a little Bichon Frise could possibly get himself into, but Hellboy manages to find enough mischief to keep Mia and Luke together for their entire two week sojourn—just enough time to cement their relationship, and worm his way into their hearts and lives.  After all—when Mia and Luke get together, they’ll be right next door; he can visit them any time.  Summer Lovin’ was a fun diversion for an hour or so on a lazy summer day.

I Do…Or Die by Donna Cummings

Blurb:

“Always a bridesmaid, never a bride” is Shelby Atwood's personal credo. She’s managed to avoid commitment all her life—no pets, no plants, not even a long-term lease. Heck, she’s had colds last longer than her romantic relationships. How could she be any other way when she has a gigolo for a father?

But then gunfire erupts at the latest wedding she’s agreed to be in, and it ends up being the best thing to happen to Shelby’s love life. Detective Ryan Nichols is assigned to the case, and when the shootings don’t stop, he becomes her twenty-four-hour bodyguard. Shelby wouldn’t mind except Ryan is too appealing, too sexy, and too happy to remind her of the raucous bachelorette party when she mistook him for a stripper.

Shelby’s plan is simple: find the shooter, have a fling with Ryan, and return to her non-committal life. Unfortunately, the shooter is very elusive. Shelby’s feelings for Ryan are way more than adrenaline-fueled lust. And returning to her normal life is now impossible since, despite her lifelong resistance, she’s managed to put her heart smack dab in the line of fire.

Review:

The clinic area at the Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center is shaped somewhat like a ship with a four-story atrium, and sound echoes there. So you can imagine how many people were perplexed by the peals of laughter wafting up from the basement level outside the endocrine clinic one Monday at 08:30 hours (or 8:30 a.m. to civilians), and later from the My Health eVet kiosk in the Pharmacy area on the first floor, as I reveled in the exploits of “Detective Smirky Pants” and “Shotgun,” as they try to track down the killer.  Especially when they accidentally call the groom “Gusher” to his face. Shelby privately calls him that because of the way he gushes all over the bride. It was extremely difficult to put down I Do…Or Die—first when the docs called me, and then to help veterans who had questions about the My Health eVet program, or who wanted to sign up for it, and finally when I finished it. [“Aw me-ann! Is it done already?”] I may even have sold a few copies to people who asked what I was laughing at.

If you want a book with a heroine who has a wonderfully snarky sense of humor that makes you laugh so loudly you don’t dare read it in public (or after ten p.m. if you live in a Seniors building with designated quiet hours), by all means, grab I Do…Or Die.  I fervently hope we’ll see more of Shot…, uh, Shelby and Chip…, uh, Ryan.  Ya gotta read the book.
