Cora Henley is a wedding planner who doesn’t believe in love. Still, being detail-oriented and extremely organized, she’s beyond good at her job. Her clients don’t need to know she doesn’t believe their marriages will last. They just need to know their special days will run smoothly, and with Cora at the helm, they most certainly will. Until Kane Price shows up.

Kane disturbs Cora in ways she refuses to acknowledge, and he refuses to go away. He’s a distraction she certainly does not need. To make matters worse, he wants to get married and have a family. After her parents’ divorce, marriage and family are the last things on Cora’s mind.

“Four Weddings and a Fiasco: The Wedding Day” was a fun romp. It’s a novella one can read easily in one sitting, but unfortunately, it was marred by a lack of editing. I like Ms. Kleve. I would love to be able to give her book five roses instead of four, but she really needs to spend a few dollars on a good editor. If you’re not a grammar stickler like me, you’ll love it. If you are, you’ll be a bit bugged, but you’ll still like it.

I confess I’ve become a fan of Ms. Fairfax. Palace of Deception at least the third book of hers I’ve read, and it has not disappointed me. She also managed to surprise me. I expected a completely different ending and was quite shocked when the truth was revealed, although there was foreshadowing that I completely missed. I wonder if you’ll catch it. I don’t want to say too much. I suggest you buy Palace of Deception. It’s a page-burning novella you can probably blow through in one all-too-brief sitting.

Donna's Review: 

Yes, I know. Christmas is gone. But when you’ve got to read something quick, you go to your backlist and find something quick. 

That’s how I picked up Christmas on the Strand by Loretta Wheeler. Being a native Texan myself, the appeal, of course, was that the setting was on Galveston Island.

This is a novella, so it is not lengthy. I am not particularly a fan of novellas, but Wheeler has a smooth southern drawl to her writing that sucks the reader in. The setting is well done and captures the Galveston flavor. (Made me want to go back for a visit!)

The characters of Savanna Burke and Terence Whittaker are nicely drawn, and their goals, while not particularly earth shattering or dramatic, are keen nonetheless. Even the animals have personalities in this book. The plot moves along at a steady pace. Usually novellas tend to lag because they are so thinly written. Not the case with this book. Wheeler has written a book with enough goal and conflict within the characters themselves to drive the plot forward to its end.

I also appreciated the fact that the hero and heroine did not jump into bed the first chance they got. Savanna had some morals, and that appealed to me. I liked both of the main characters so much more for that.

Now, this is a bit of a paranormal flick, so for those readers not wishing to dabble in that genre, you might wish to pass this by. There was not much of that going on here, but I cannot vouch for Wheeler’s other work as I have not read it. Typically, that is not my cup of tea, so if I do not read her other works it will be because of the genre and not her as a writer. (Although . . .  I would really like to know what happens with these two next . . .)

I understand Wheeler will be writing other books that will be companions to this one. No doubt, readers will be enthralled with Savanna and Terrence and will be coming back for more.

I gave Her Men the first thorn for the plot line. Really? A college marching band reunion? The writer only uses this as an excuse for them to get together although I still don’t know what goes on at one of these reunions. I gave it the second thorn for the erotica. Julie Weston fantasizes about having sex with both men, and when she gets her wish, it happens just exactly as the fantasy is first written. There are no surprises there. The third thorn is for the ridiculous behavior of the two men. It’s so unbelievable.
